Pure Substance

Definition:

• A substance with a homogenous and invariable composition

State postulate:

• For a pure substance, only two independent (E.g. $\rho$ or $v=\frac{1}{p}$) intensive (size independent) properties are sufficient to establish the state.
• Ex: for a gas: P&T

Key point:

• May exist in more than one phase
